PEPE REINA FULFILS ‘PROMISE’ OF RETURNING TO VILLARREAL, PLANS RETIREMENT

Pepe Reina has signed a one-year deal with Villarreal after departing Lazio. The 39-year-old previously spent three seasons playing for the Spanish club. He helped them qualify for the Champions League for the first time ever in 2005. Reina became one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers while at Liverpool. Pepe Reina says he has fulfilled his ‘promise’ to return to Villarreal, 17 years after leaving the club to join Liverpool.

The 39-year-old goalkeeper has signed a one-year deal with the Spanish club after leaving Lazio at the end of his contract.  Reina previously spent three seasons at Villarreal, helping them reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in 2004 and then qualify for the Champions League for the first time ever a year later. NAPOLI MOVE CLEAR WITH WIN

Veteran Lazio goalkeeper Pepe Reina picked the ball from the back of the net four times as leaders Napoli ran riot to extend their lead at the top of the Italian Serie A table.

Pepe Reina was given no chance as hosts Napoli took the lead through Poland international Piotr Zelinski in the seventh minute. Dries Mertens came into the Napoli starting XI in the place of the injured Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and he doubled the advantage from the home team with a fine finish off the assist from fellow petite player Lorenzo Insigne.

REINA RECORDS CLEAN SHEET IN WIN

Pepe Reina kept a clean sheet as his Lazio team boosted their quest for a spot in the Champions League next season with a slim away win over Udinese in their league game at the weekend. Only the top four teams will qualify for the Champions League next season via the Italian Serie A. AS Roma are city rivals of Lazio and they are still in the Europa League. A win in the Europa League will guarantee AS Roma a place in the Champions League next season. Lazio and AS Roma are two of the many teams battling to win a place in the top four at the end of the present Italian Serie A campaign.

For Pepe Reina and Lazio, they have a lot of work to do in the final ten games to secure a place in the Champions League for next season and make it back-to-back as far as the competition is concerned. Lazio made their return to the Champions League after many years and they were able to make it to the last 16 stage before they were knocked out by holders Bayern Munich. Pepe Reina was in goal over the two legs as the Bavarian giants sealed a 6-2 aggregate win over Lazio to progress into the quarterfinals.

PEPE REINA CHASING UEFA APPEARANCE RECORD

 

Spanish international shot stopper Pepe Reina is chasing an European record ahead of his Lazio side’s matchday 4 clash with Zenit St. Petersburg of Russia.Lazio play hosts to Zenit St. Petersburg at the StadioOlimpico in a Group F clash with the knowledge that a win will draw them closer to qualification for the knockout stages of the competition. For Russian Premier League giants Zenit, a defeat to the Biancocelesti on Tuesday night could spell the end of their campaign in the competition though they could still finish third in the group to drop down to the Europa League.


Pepe Reina is in line to start the Zenit game due to the injury to first choice goalkeeper ThomasStrakosha. If he features in the game, the 38-year-old will equal Italian football legend Paolo Maldinias the third highest on the list of UEFA club competitions appearance makers. An appearance against the Russians will make it his 174th appearance in Europe behind Cristiano Ronaldo (179 matches) and Iker Casillas (188 matches).

Maurizio Sarri is Keen on Bringing Reina to Juventus

Pepe Reina, the thirty-six-year-old goal-keeper had moved to AC Milan only last year for a 3-year deal after he left Napoli. Nevertheless, his former boss Maurizio Sarri from Naples has become the manager of Juventus and look forward to a reunion with the Spaniard in Turin. Pepe Reina has two more years left on the deal at San Siro. Here, he has made only 4 appearances as the understudy to the first-option Gianluigi Donnarumma.

He has served as an amazing back-up in Rossoneri. As a matter of fact, he has proved to be reliable when he was called on replace Gianluigi Donnarumma. Marco Giampaolo, the new boss of Milan is going to allow this Spanish World Cup winning player for free. Mattia Perin, the keeper from Juventus might be all set to leave this summer and Reina is being considered as a replacement as the goalkeeper. Pepe Reina Expresses His Desire To Train In Madrid Or Barcelona

The current Milan goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, went through El Transistor de Onda Cero’s microphone in order to review the sporting career of his life and explain his future plans. The goalkeeper has disclosed his desire to train players in the future after he finishes his contract in Italy, without ruling out the popular teams like Madrid and Barcelona. He feels it is the ambition of every coach.

Reina’s contract with Milan is going to last till 2021. He has stated that he wants to enjoy football in these three years. However, he also has a strong desire to train and prepare to be a winning coach in the future. The goalkeeper doesn’t close his doors in that sense and will not shy away from training anyone. He hopes to get an opportunity to train Madrid. This is a dream that he nurtures. When it comes to his past at Barcelona, he says that he is truly grateful to his club which has given him the training, not just as a footballer but also as a human being. This has helped him to be what he is today.

REINA RESPONDS TO LIVERPOOL INCIDENT NINE YEARS LATER

The ball took a different path and Pepe Reina and Liverpool were left to sulk for the remainder of the game against Southampton in 2009, when Darren Bent soft shot cannoned off a beach ball to give The Saints a much needed win.

Reina recalls the event as horrible and says he is still haunted by it, nine years later.A pool of Red shirts crowed referee Mike Jones after the incident, protesting the goal, and calling for it to be cancelled. But the presiding official ruled against it, and stretched out his arms pointing to the centre.

“My Heart Is Still At Napoli’ Says Pepe Reina

Pepe Reina, the New AC Milan goalkeeper revealed recently that he has left a piece of his heart at Napoli, while playing for the team ahead of the Series A opener on Rossoneri opposite the partenopei.

He was interviewed recently and questioned about the upcoming clash that involves Napoli and Milan. In the reply to this question, the Spaniard said: “Immediately return to Naples? It was written, and it was supposed to go like this. I am very much happy that I am going back to my home after so long time. I love my team and the teammates. If you ask me about my experiences, then my experiences are wonderful   and I have only thanks words for Naples and I would    not mind to say that I have a little piece of my heart left in Napoli. I anticipate that by the season end, if Milan is not going to win, then they will do it “.

Pepe Reina Does Not Want To Leave AC Milan

The renowned goalkeeper of AC Milan Pepe Reina said he would stay at the club, although there have been speculation regarding his movement to Chelsea. The Blues are keen to sign a contract with Reina with Milan in agreement with the offer for the player. After 1-1 draw in Milan’s pre-season against Manchester United, Reina says he wishes to be with the San Siro side for some time. He feels lucky to have played for the best teams in his career and undoubtedly Milan is one of the most precious ones. Reina felt honored to wear the shirt and playing his first match and wants to play a minimum of 150 matches with the shirt on.

The connection between Chelsea and Reina is not surprising as the Spain International had a significant role to play as far as the success behind Maurizio Sarri at Napoli is concerned. The Blues are all geared up to have a new goalkeeper this summer and Real Madrid are in agreement with the Blues for Thibaut Courtois. Reina although is now heading towards the end of his successful career, he is still a best performed and it was proven in the last season at Napoli. Reina is indeed an ideal match as he plays football like the way Sarri wants.  The 35 year old efficiently distributed possession in the last season and allowed Napoli to start from the back fast with the help of the likes from the Sarri’s follower, Jorginho from Stadio San Paolo until Stamford Bridge.
