Rafael Benitez remains a Premier League coaching legend. He is a legend for the club, a fans’ favourite and a serial continental champion. From being with the Madrid second team to other La Liga sides, then to Liverpool from Valencia in 2004. Benitez also coached Inter, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid senior side, and performed magic with Newcastle United before he moved for a retirement package in China. The Spaniard does not get as much credit for his work on the continent.
There is Xabi Alonso, the midfield maestro. The player has earned commendation for his character on and off the pitch, his raw talent and hard work. He was such an asset to Liverpool.
Then there is the best keeper Liverpool ever had Pepe Reina. Jerzy Dudek and Alisson Becker might rival that but Reina was as good as it gets. He was a fan favourite too especially when he saved three out of four kicks in the shootout against West Ham in the FA Cup. Reina also moved on to make his mark in the Serie A.
There is Javier Mascherano that was a monster according to Benitez. The versatile player struggled when he moved to the Premier League initially but rose to the occasion countless times whilst at Anfield.
Dirk Kuyt was a player who gave his al for Liverpool. He was a big game player and he gave his best to the club he loved.
There are other notable mentions like Yossi Bernayoun, Lucas Leiva and Luis Garcia that Benitez got into the Reds’ team, and they did wonders.
