COPPA ITALIA: MILAN THROUGH TO SEMIS

AC Milan are through to the Coppa Italia semi-finals after the big win recorded over Lazio in their quarterfinal tie at the San Siro on Wednesday. The Rossoneri put four past Pepe Reina in the Lazio goal to book their place in the last four of the competition.

Hosts AC Milan took the lead through Portuguese forward Rafael Leao in the 24th minute. In-form Frenchman Olivier Giroud added a second goal for the seven-time European champions with four first half minutes left to play as he gave Pepe Reina in the Lazio goal no chance of saving the first of his first half brace to take his tally to three goals in two games.Giroud came into the Lazio game with two quick-fire goals from the Milan Derby at the weekend. The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker scored a brace within three minutes to turn the Milan Derby clash in the Italian Serie A on its head.

The brace from Giroud against Inter Milan overturned the first half strike from Croatia national team star Ivan Perisic for the hosts. His goals sealed a 2-1 away win for Milan and also closed the gap on leaders Inter to just a point. Milan are in third spot on the league table as they have the same points with Napoli. Both Napoli and AC Milan are one point adrift of leaders Inter Milan.

French World Cup winner scored a third AC Milan goal in added time of the first half to take his tally to four goals in two games. The brace from Giroud plus the opening goal from Leao gave Milan a 3-0 lead at the half-time break. The third Milan goal from Giroud ended the Coppa Italia quarterfinal clash as a contest. Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie put a fourth goal past Pepe Reina in the final quarter of the game to seal an emphatic victory for the Rossoneri.
