BETTER THAN OTHER SEASONS

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has said that this has been a much better season than in the last couple of seasons for Liverpool. Despite spending more than £ 100 million on new players in the summer, Kenny Dalglish has been able to get the team just above the 10th position in the table.

Many expected them to be challenging for a top four finish this season, but it has never materialised. However, they have just won their first trophy in six years after the Carling Cup win over Cardiff City a few months back. Liverpool also have the opportunity to claim the FA Cup at the new Wembley when they take on Chelsea.

Due to the fact that the possibility of lifting two major cups a one single season remains, Pepe Reina has said that this has been a good season for Liverpool compared with the past few seasons. It is highly unlikely that Kenny Dalglish will be retained as the Liverpool manager if they do not finish in the Champions League next season as well. Due to the fact that they have not finished in the top four this season, there have been a number of reports linking Liverpool players with a move in search of Champions League football.

“There’s no doubt we’ve improved from last season already. We’ve won the Carling (League) Cup, with the possibility of a second, while also qualifying for Europe (albeit the second-tier Europa League). The target of the club is still to get back in the Champions League. But before the start of the season, if someone had said we’d win the Carling Cup, reach the final of the FA Cup, as well as getting seventh, probably most people would have taken that,” said the Spaniard ahead of the FA Cup final on May 5.
